Turn right at the cross-roads
and after approximately 30 yards go through the gap in the wall on your left . You are now
in Black Hill Wood. Follow the path through the wood walking in the same general direction
as the road. The footpath here is a concessionary one, the wood being
owned by the Water Board and leased to Lancashire County Council. The end of the path
brings you back on to the road (Back Lane). Turn left and walk along the road. Once
clear of the trees there are extensive views to the south and east over Boulsworth and
Hameldon Hills. Historic Gawthorpe Hall can be seen in the distance to the south-east. On
the right is a car park newly-constructed in April 1996. Just before reaching the
cross-roads at Black Hill lies the picnic site which is a convenient resting place to stop
and take in the sights of Pendle and the valley below. |
