Continue along the bridle-path
through two gates and at the third gate turn left but do not go through
the gate. Instead follow the wall down to reach a small stile in the corner. Cross the
stile and immediately go through the small gap in the wall. Turn sharp left, carrying
straight down the hill to the fence at the bottom. You will reach a stile (marked yellow).
The farm on your left is Lower Barn Farm and was built around 1700 the last farmer being
Les Simpson. Go over the stile and straight across to the next stile and cross this on to
the Sabden-Whalley road. Turn right on to the main road and after 30 yards you will
reach a stile on your left. The white house you have just passed is Lane Side and dates
from 1604; originally a farm, the barn was converted into a private dwelling in 1972. |
