On the 8th March 1989 the villagers of Sabden were invited to attend a public meeting at St Mary's Church Hall to discuss the prospect of building a sports facility for Sabden. The response was enthusiastic and encouraging for that initial small group of determined people dedicated to making their own particular dream come true. Over 150 people, around 10% of the village population, attended.

The task in hand was a huge endeavour and there were some who doubted it could ever be achieved.
