Upon leaving school Henry moved from Burnley to Sabden, where he had gained employment at Messrs Steiner and Co, calico printworks.  Henry met his future wife, Alice, a native of Preston, whilst she was working in the weaving shed at Cobden Mill.  The couple set up home in Padiham Road, Sabden and they went on to have two children.

On December the 21st 1914, Henry enlisted into the army, whilst Alice, along with the children moved to 49 Springfield Street, Preston to be near her parents.

Henry had served for twelve months in Salonika when he contracted Malaria and died in hospital.  In 1919 his widow re-married and became Mrs Haggers.

Henry is buried in Salonika (Lembet Road) Military Cemetery, Greece.

 

In Sabden he has been remembered on both the School and Church Plaques.
