When enlisting into the army, George gave his details as being born in Barrow-in-Furness and residing in Preston.  His parents were Joseph and Priscilla Dawes of 80 Higginson Street, Preston. 

George's wife, Alice Ann remarried after his death to a Mr Moorhouse and lived at 48/50 Moor Lane, Padiham. 

He obviously had connections with Sabden, because St Nicholas Church have remembered him on their plaque.  At present, there are no more details known about him. 

George has no known grave, he is remembered on Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. 

In Sabden he has been remembered on the St Nicholas Church plaque.
